 3月2日發布的一份基于英國碳信托有限公司(Carbon Trust)以及帝國理工學院(Imperial College London)分析的報告顯示，如果英國電力系統市場規章允許利用儲能技術，那么直到2030年英國可以節省數十億美元。

如果這其中一半的“節省”傳遞給英國國內的消費者，那么他們平均每年電費將下降50英鎊。

主要有三種儲能類型：批量、分布式以及迅速性。國際能源機構(IEA)同時表示，儲能技術或許能夠幫助地球“實現一個低碳的未來”。

英國碳信托有限公司的創新主任Andrew Lever在一份聲明中指出，能源儲存長期以來一直被視為英國低碳能能源行業的靈丹妙藥，英國通過以該技術提供一套服務來平衡能源系統，使電力網絡更有效率并幫助英國在成本情況下，實現碳排放目標。

能源存儲是實現未來低碳、可再生能源目標一個至關重要的過渡，因為像太陽能、風能等能源不能保證會源源不斷提供給我們。

但是Lever補充道，存儲技術因未能巧妙地融入現有監管框架，從而顛覆了傳統知識體系。目前的監管框架一直圍繞“電力從大型集中式發電廠提供給消費者”這一能源體系。

Lever繼續解釋道，目前儲能技術的未來舞臺非常廣闊，但是由于“過時的市場框架”令相關技術部署仍面臨挑戰。
